Sam Raimi

Starring:
Bruce Campbell

Favorite Character:
Ashley "Ash" J. Williams (as if those of you who know me had any doubts...)

Plot Summary:
Five friends on a road trip end up at a creepy ass abandoned cabin in the middle of some slightly creepy woods. Inside they find the Nyturan Demonta (aka Book of the Dead) and some audio recordings made by the cabin’s former occupants. Like the jackasses college kids tend to be they play the recording of the demonic incantations and hilarity ensues…I mean, um, terror ensues. Yeah…terror.

Shit gets real after one of the girls is lured into the woods where graphic dendrophilia occurs (is it still considered dendrophilia if the tree rapes the person and not the other way around?) and she becomes infected (read as demonically possessed) and turns into a deadite. If you don’t know that term you probably shouldn’t be reading this blog…

From there chaos reigns supreme as the other four (in a desperate fight for survival) are left trapped with the deadite in a dark, dark cabin in the dark, dark woods where some dark, dark shit is going down. I know…I’m a poet. ;)

Favorite Quote(s):
Ash: We can't bury Shelly. Sh-she's a friend of ours!

Favorite Scene:
I absolutely love when the house starts bleeding. It's such a well done scene.

Review:
It may not be polished, it may not have big name actors (for the time), but it's a solid first feature length film by Raimi. It’s also a cult classic. This movie was made on a very small budget by friends (and horror fans) and it shows. It’s the right combination of dark humor and horror/gore which is a rarity in this genre and makes it a hell of a fun movie to watch. Plus, Bruce Campbell is awesome!

Interesting Fact:
The original script called for all the characters to be smoking marijuana when they are first listening to the tape. The actors decided to try this for real, and the entire scene had to be re-shot at a later date due to their uncontrollable behavior. (Because that was a good idea...)
